Infographic: The Power of the Mobile Phone in Emerging Markets

Did you know that out of the 5.3 billion mobile subscriptions in the world, 73% are based in emerging markets? We wanted to share this interesting infographic by jana (a mobile technology company) with some great stats about the power of mobile in emerging markets.

A person’s relationship with their mobile is increasingly important in these markets. As an example, not only do they use their minutes for talk time, but also as currency to pay bills, purchase things, and do banking.

Looking at markets in the APAC region such as India, there are  59% of mobile web users that are mobile-only, meaning they only use their phones to access the web. Vietnam has one of the highest mobile phone penetration percentages in the world, and according to this infographc, Indonesia’s mobile penetration is even higher than in the US.

The scope for mobile advertising in this region are certainly worth exploring more.
